2010 Chinese New Year Celebration Proposal

Our Purpose
The 2010 Chinese New Year Event is a celebration of traditional Chinese Lunar New Year. This Event is open to the Claremont Colleges. Also, it is a good chance us to present traditional Chinese Culture.
Our Expectation
We hope that the event is not only a Chinese celebration, but also a channel to strengthen the linkage among Chinese from different areas, a platform to enable foreign friends experience the uniqueness of Spring Festival.
Sponsor: GSA & I-Place (Auditorium)
Organizer: CSSA, TSSA and CSA (Undergrad)
Potential audience: open to all people in Claremont colleges as well as local residents, but maximum 200
Time: 6-9 p.m. Feb 12th, 2010
Location: the McKenna Auditorium in CMC
Arrangements
1. Dinner(6 pm -6:30 pm): Traditional Chinese food and snacks

- Undergraduates’ Chinese hip-hop
- Chinese & English songs singing (Chinese and American undergraduates)
- Erhu Instrument: Chinese traditional instrument performance

- Kong Fu show (depended)
- Group Singing (Epilogue)
- Lottery, Gifts, and Bauble. The Audience will get a ticket when entering the Auditorium, and the lottery would be ran during the show, the rewards are very rich (including tiger bauble, lantern, couplet and other souvenirs)
- Let Your Body Talk! (Language beyond Boundary) Two people in a group, one person will have to explain a word in Chinese or English to the other with only body language rather than speaking. One can only use one’s gesture, action and facial expression.
- Good buddies! (2 men and 3 legs ) Two people stand side by side, with one’s left leg tied with the other’s right one. Then assignment like retrieving balloon or racing would be given to them. Two or three groups would be invited to the stage.
- How much do you know? Live Class The master will tell audience small stories about Chinese tradition and Culture of Spring Festival, simple greetings, dressing, and festival eating habits.
